Xbox Live Details
June
13, 2002
Microsoft
has announced details of their plans for the Xbox Live service in
Japan. Most of it is the same as what we've already heard for
North America, but there are several significant points:
- Still
scheduled for launch this fall, the Xbox Live starter kit will
include a version of Phantasy Star Online. North
American gamers are getting a version of Acclaim's Re-Volt
instead. The reason for PSO's inclusion is obvious: with
poor sales of the Xbox in Japan so far, PSO will be a much
better system (and online) seller than Re-Volt will.
Everything else about the kit (software, 1 year of service,
Communicator) remains the same for Japan.
- Whacked!
will be one of the major games launching with the service.
- Sega
has announced an online volleyball game, Spike-Out X-Treme
(tentative title). Other scheduled online games include MechAssault,
Midtown Madness 3, an online RPG and an online fishing
game. No release dates were announced for these titles.
