Unreal II On the Way
July 17,
2003
Atari is set to release Unreal II: The Awakening for the Xbox
console for the 2003 Holiday Season. Unreal II: The Awakening is the
follow-up to the 1998 PC game Unreal.
The Xbox version is in development by Tantalus and Legend
Entertainment (an Atari studio) with assistance from Epic Games. The
game is being modified and tweaked to create better performance and
controls specifically designed for the Xbox.
Gamers will assume the role of a hardened lawman who is racing to
collect artifacts and prevent a great power from being released. Of
course, you cannot expect to save the Universe without being armed
to the teeth. This game is no exception and is home to many classic
First-Person-Shooter favorites (like rocket launchers) as well as
several new and tweaked weapons.
Multiplayer promises to be this game’s main strength. Two players
can go through the single player campaign in a Co-op Mode offline.
The Xbox Live multiplayer mode will feature “class-based, team
orientated” action. Since games like the classic mod Team Fortress
and Return to Castle Wolfenstein have proven this style of
multiplayer to be incredible, Unreal II should be no exception.
The latest Unreal Engine technology will allow special effects like
blazing fire, drifting smoke and weather. Enemy AI has been
increased, and now enemies will hide as well as work as a team.
