Tenchu Announced
July 29,
2003
Activision
announced it is bringing its ninja franchise Tenchu to the Xbox.
Tenchu: Return From Darkness builds upon the success of
Tenchu: Wraith of Heaven (PS2). Tenchu: Return From Darkness
will feature an updated design, technical enhancements, new maps and
features, and Xbox Live support.
Tenchu: Return
From Darkness
will have three gameplay modes. There is a Single Player,
Two-Player, and Xbox Live mode. The Two-Player mode is split into
either versus or co-op. The title will also include 11 stages in
story mode with two new maps. There are also six multiplayer levels.
The game will also feature cut-screens and a training mode.
The Xbox Live
mode allows for two-player co-op missions through the six
multiplayer levels and voice chat support. Players can
simultaneously kill enemies.
"We're excited
to give Xbox gamers the opportunity to play the most authentic
stealth based ninja game ever,"
said Larry Goldberg, executive vice president, Activision Worldwide
Studios. "Tenchu: Return from Darkness takes the franchise to new
heights with never before seen levels and enemies, enhanced
maneuvers, more weapons and Xbox Live capabilities, making it the
first Tenchu title to feature online gameplay."
Tenchu: Return
to Darkness
is set in the late 1570’s, taking place one year after the original
Tenchu. This game allows players to take on the roles of the ninjas
Rikimaru, Ayame, or Tesshu. Players will control them in their
battle against Tenrai and his six lords of darkness. Players will
need to use strategy, stealth, cunning, and weapons in order to
survive.
Expect
Tenchu: Return From Darkness in the Spring of 2004.
